Kay Jones > Another view of the Humpback Covered Bridge in Covington, VA ... This is the oldest of Virginia's covered bridges built in 1857. Three other bridges preceded this one. Two were washed away by floods and the other "gave way." This bridge is 100-foot-long, single-span, and 4 feet higher in the middle than it is on either end. It was replaced by a steel bridge in 1929 then used to store a farmer's hay until it was rescued by a local women's civic group.
