Kay Jones > Anhinga birds swim underwater to spear their fish then they spread their wings to dry off.
Kay Jones > Sometimes the anhingas spear fish that are too big for them to handle without hands and they lose their catch to be scooped up quickly by a 'gator or snake.
Kay Jones > Anhingas swim underwater to spear their fish then they have to flip it off of their beak into their throat. They put on quite a show! This is harder than eating with chopsticks.
Kay Jones > Wood storks and egrets visit this field of sawgrass in the Everglades NP.
Kay Jones > Woodstorks are very shy. Every time I approached one of them, it flew away. I was only able to get a head-shot of this one through the trees.
Kay Jones > Cormorants were often seen in the canals along the highways in southern FL.
Kay Jones > Pelicans are not very shy and will often "pose" for photos. This immature pelican, note the brown head, was hanging about in a canal near our campground. In the background is the hazy image of a great blue heron.
Kay Jones > This killdeer is a tiny bird that was hanging out around one of the boardwalks in the Everglades.
Kay Jones > I enjoyed watching this Little Blue Heron in Big Cypress Bend National Preserve in the Everglades FL.
