These photos were taken in
Joshua Tree National Park in CA in May 2005 during a heat wave when temperatures reached 102 F in the late afternoons all three days!
Native Americans found the Joshua tree to be a great resource: leaves were worked into baskets and sandals; flower buds and seeds were eaten.
